Siân has explored several
ideas in her work during her career as a textile artist including
use of stitch and mixed media and experimental ways of using
wrapping and Shibori techniques.
Siâns' current
personal subject is a commentary on family memories, incorporating
both the imagery and associations of her parent’s lifetime
careers as artists in South Wales.
The gathering and sorting
of materials informs the methods and structures of Siân’s
pieces. Fragments of photographs are colour coded and re-formed
into lace-like mosaic curtains, taking the form of wall hangings
and installations.
Photographic images are also
printed onto fabric, which is then formed into different
surfaces and structures by manipulation techniques, particularly
steam-setting as in the Japanese method of ‘Shibori’.
