Distant Stitch

DISTANT STITCH

Distant Stitch is a correspondence course that allows students to work at home at their own pace. The Course covers the City and Guilds Stitched Textiles Certificate and Diploma, Level 3. Both Courses have been written and are tutored by Siân Martin.

Siân has structured the City and Guilds syllabus in a logical and sequential way, using straightforward text, easy to follow diagrams and full colour pages to guide students through the syllabus.

Siân is an experienced teacher of stitched textiles and has taught the City and Guilds syllabus to adults since 1980. She started developing the concept of Distant Stitch in 1991 as a way of enabling one of her students who had moved abroad to complete her City and Guilds Part 1 Course (Certificate) with Siân.
Siân guides each student individually, building on each one’s different strengths. She provides detailed written feedback in a constructive and sensitive manner relating to each parcel of work her students sends to her studio. The marked work is returned quickly and efficiently, within the week and often by return of post. Siân is available to be contacted by phone, email or letter regarding queries in the Course material or to offer interim advice and reassurance. Siân enjoys the contact with all her students and is particularly pleased to actually meet up and work with Distant Stitch students at the optional annual Summer School.
