About Lizzy Lewis

Lizzy Lewis

Lizzy Lewis is the newest member of the Distant Stitch team. She graduated from Bath Spa University in 2013 with a First Class Degree in Mixed Media Textiles and Fine Art.

Lizzy has experience teaching workshops and runs courses in partnership with her mum, Viv. She has taught courses at Urchfont Manor and Bath Spa University covering a range of subjects including Machine Embroidery, Creative Sketchbooks and Drawing. Lizzy enjoys sharing ideas with others and is pleased to be part of the Distant Stitch team of tutors.

Lizzy is an advocate of traditional technique and works using machine embroidery, print and surface manipulation such as cutwork and drawn-thread embroidery. She pushes the boundaries of these techniques and looks at how she can provoke and subvert the way in which it is presented to an audience. She likes to involve the viewer in the narrative of the work and uses lighting, film and mirrors in combination with these techniques to create an interaction.

Lizzy’s work has been shown regularly in group exhibitions and she has also had work selected for national exhibitions.
