Sian

A second newsletter—to send you news from Distant Stitch . I hope you enjoy the photo below of Susan Johnson’s final assessment piece and some of the delightful children who inspired her. You can also see what I get up to when I am not looking at your blogs. Remember that I would be delighted if you would take a peep at my own blog

Please introduce yourself to Siân and Jacqui at the Distant Stitch room at Urchfont Open Day, if you can make it, on Sunday 3rd July, between 10.30 and 15.00.

So do tell your friends about them and come back yourself to begin a new adventure when you have completed your current course
'The family is a link to our past and a bridge to our future' (quote Alex Haley).
A 2 metre length of stitched fragments of photos and pieces of vellum make a continuous loop that falls freely from one point.

‘I have incorporated old family photos, selected by colour to form these stitched bands. It was quite a logistical challenge to get the final sections connected up to make this continuous loop!’

Watch out for this hanging by Siân at the Knitting and Stitch Shows this autumn.

RECENT GRADUATES

Well done to Meg Brien, Susan Devonport, Julie Filmer and Karen Phimister who have been awarded their Embroidery Certificate and to Susan Johnson who has been awarded her City and Guilds Diploma this year.

You all worked so hard to achieve these awards so many congratulations.

Several other Distant Stitch students are nearing completion so watch this space!

Susan Johnson's 'site-specific' piece for Bethany School, Cincinnati, Ohio. The tree of life is the school's symbol.

The children from many races are "praise dancing", shown in layers of organza against an ancient tree that sprouts leaves each bearing a child's name. Christian and Matthew, 8, spot their names.
